>>11911992>If I took 1 banana seed and planted it, I would get thousands of themtime isnt a factor in the equation
>It still doesn't explain how the fuck you get "1", "2" or however the fuck many bananas you're talking aboutnumbers describe groups of things
the definition of 1 is whatever real thing you want it to be. if you want to have 1 thing, then you must first distinguish between other things. what is the thing, and what isnt the thing. you must then distinguish what separates your things. this is already done for you by your brain, and what youve been taught about things. what we all know as "1 banana" has to be assigned to the number 1 because it cannot be anything else. if it were 2 then it would have to have 2 equal parts.
>>11911968>but in PA, 2 is not defined as 1+1, its the successor of the successor of 0if numbers arent defined as groups then there is no reason why i cant say "1" equals "1 banana" and "2" equals "5 bananas" and "3" equals "6 bananas". the system has no basis in reality, you need to have the "successor" based on your decided grouping. in PA you can decide redefine the criteria of your grouping with every different number. if i want to count something i need to have a criteria by which to group things.if i decide that every mush coated in a yellow peel is 1 banana, the definition of 2 bananas (in peanos arithmetic) has no ties to what i defined as 1 banana. i could say that the successor of 1 banana is 5 grapefruits, nothing is being accomplished here. if you then add 1 banana and 5 grapefruits together then i hope you can imagine what happens because the only word to describe this situation is absurd.
>>11911976adding is only grouping things differently. if we are thinking in the case of money, i receive a dollar, that dollar always existed. but i didnt group it in with "my" money because i only count what i define as my money.
