It's only recently that math has become a thing on it's own.
There is no actual "from scratch", the math you learn in school is very different from what people use to learn and use and I'm not even talking about common core.
Start with algebra, memorize the formulas and rules, then just apply them to what you see.
All higher level math is just sophistry because nobody actually understands it and you can get away with saying just about anything as long as you word it correctly.
