It's not money wasted necessarily, but wind and solar power are both victims of overzealous hype. They can be useful, but people act like it's an easy thing to use them to fully replace fossil fuel power on timelines of 15 years.

That's fucking stupid. In order to do that,you have to replace an entire large power plant's worth of electricity with wind or solar power every 2 weeks-that's the equivalent of several hundred square MILES of wind or solar farms being put up in that time. And of course that's not counting the secondary infrastructure in the form of new power lines,switching stations, oh and of course astonishing amounts of energy storage and potentially some kind of backup gas-fired power system needing to be set up in case that runs out,and keeping that in working order and staffed just in case it is needed.....

This is several absolutely enormous national projects stacked up together in a nation that fucked up building a stupid high-speed train due to all the regulations and roadblocks that got thrown up. You'll be lucky to see this STARTED by 2035.

Putting out a paper that you're got scientific or engineering breakeven is one thing, but showing a full-blown power-producing prototype is a very different beast.

For those of your curious,the company is Helion Energy. They're gone very quiet,but have made some very suggestive hires recently that indicate that they've got serious continuing funding and the ability to draw in ultra-elite job candidates.

What the fuck am I supposed to do for nuclear power? Either you nuke boys get it working or we'll be stuck with Natural Gas until it runs out. The only real problem I have with it is the water that runs out tends to be significantly warmer than the river, which can mess up fish reproduction. But that's a lot easier to fix than a fucking dam.

Build a proper containment shell for your reactor. There, you're fucking done. Seriously, a given reactor can only meltdown so hard, all you have to do is build a concrete shell strong enough to resist it. Expensive sure, but it's a fucking nuclear power plant, it will make it's money back.

If you think Fukushima was one of "the latest nuclear power plants", you're the disingenuous one. Equating a plant designed in the 60s that had an easily preventable failure only not prevented due to greed to modern designs in general is ridiculous.
