Not looking to offend anyone here, but I'm wondering...why are there so few American kids in American STEM graduate programs?

The balance is pretty even in undergrad, but we now have statistics showing that CS PhD programs in the states are something like 64% international students.

Are my American peers just too stupid and unmotivated to continue with graduate school in STEM? Don't see the need to because they just want to get a job? Don't any American kids have an interest in graduate math, physics, CS, etc.? What's going on here?

It's not surprising at all. In the US most people join CS undergrad programs with the intention of going directly into industry (a software engineering job) immediately after graduation with the hope of making 6 figs.

My take is it's a combination of:
>other countries stressing advanced STEM education more than America
>America having most of the strongest PhD offerings in the world
>History of people doing schooling in America
>All taught in English (pretty much everyone in STEM across the world needs to know English if they're going to be a top-tier scientist)
>Can take an American PhD to almost any country in the world, not true of many other countries
>"Undergrad and done" culture in America which might not be the same elsewhere (not sure on this)

A PhD is losing its value by the day and it's real purpose is to grab foreign talent or convince egotistic brainlets to happily work for meager pay believing it is a noble cause.
people like Voevodsky are heads and shoulders over these PhD chimps.
Why would geniuses give universities free patents for a piece of paper if they could close source and patent it themselves.
Every foreign professor I've seen had children that didn't pursue a PhD but went for MBA.
Everyone but the brainlets that need constant self validation know that PhDs are not worth.

A PhD is generally worth less than the 6 years of experience you would have by then. If you want to be a researcher or go into academia, then a PhD is irreplaceable, but you can definitely become a senior or staff software engineer after 6 years and make 2-3 times as much as 99% of PhD new grads.

Citizens can work their six figure job forever with a simple BA, pajeets and chinks only have 3 years of STEM OPT on which they can work anywhere, after that they have to pray that they get an H1B. Those that don't will often apply to grad school just to get another F1 student visa so as to avoid going back, and after that they get another OPT period. This creates a perverse incentive for pajeets to chain b-tier graduate programs in their desperate bid to stay here. That's why you never see Americans in random unfunded grad programs, the tuition is only worth it for the F1 and OPT. Actual Americans will pursue full PhD programs straight out of college.
