Kinda sad when we're currently living through the 6th mass extinction event (caused by humans) and the previous 5 mass extinction events wiped out 75% or more of the biodiversity on the planet.
Which means that 400,000 known plant species will dwindle down to a meager 10,000 or less.

Maybe this is the true reason for the Fermi paradox. If life is and extremely rare and precious thing in this universe, and intelligent life even more rare, then maybe aliens simply don't wish to be associated with an intelligent species that'd wipe out 75% of the life on their own planet.
