Hey guys, doing a pharmacy internship at a hospital this summer. I remember a meme going around about blah blah blah "this is what america does to black women, they eat themselves obese and then they end up in the hospital getting pumped full of antibiotics. This is literally what goes on in this hospital for inpatients on the daily. Let me give you the usual gist: They do blood work, they check vitals at the ER. If you elderly or obese you will be moved to inpatient 95% of the time. Then they check your urine because youre inpatient. Literally everyone has a UTI at any given time. Literally everyone's blood pressure is also off, or their hemoynamics are slightly unstable. So they treat everyone by pumping them full of saline, antibiotics, and blood pressure medicine. Monitor for 2-3 days, then they get sent home.
Now at the pharmacy it's literally the same drugs we give everyone:
Dulcolax (for constipation due to being inpatient???)
Apixaban (for DVT prophylaxis due to being inpatient???)
Saline (for hydration??? Why not just drink gatorade)
Vancomycin (To prevent MRSA or tx of UTI)
Labetalol

This CANT be how medicine is. It seems too much like a robotic tune up.
