What are your heuristics to weight opinions you hear according to who stated/created them? Or who do you believe in regarding something

Things like
-Perceived (by you) general intelligence
-Perceived (by you) general knowledge
-Reported (by others) general intelligence
-Reported (by others) general knowledge
-Level of education (major, masters, phd..)
-Background area
-If he is a specialist on the field.
-Professional accomplishment
-Perceived 'sound judgement' (usually shows well thought opinions
etc..

How do these things count to you.

When I have the chance, I usually ask the opinion of people I consider highly intelligent
on general issues, like politics and economy. And my 'heuristic' to guess someone is smart is a mix of professional accomplishment, education level (extra points for being from prestigious colleges and from stem). And there are some people seem bright right at first sight - they are articulated, make strong points and show vast knowledge.

"You should listen to the experts" - frequently there is no consensus among them.
