Why can't we just assume results of experiments that we can't actually do/are really hard and follow it logically to an easier experiment/problem? Then prove 2 things at once, basically.
Math example: assume P=NP, then try to solve an NP-Complete problem.
Physics example: assume a certain elementary particle exists, then try and use said particle to generate momentum or something.
Wouldn't science progress faster this way instead of being in a quagmire for decades at a time?
