It's that certain subfields of the study that aren't held to much rigor (ie, social psych and lack of reproducibility, cognition and statistical learning, etc.) give it a bad rep, alongside the fact that many undecided undergrads use it as a filler major because their undergrad programs aren't as intense as good research would ask for.
