i think instrumentality was a euphemism for BCI brain-computer-interfaces. Except in the case of Evangelion, they were more like brain-to-brain interfaces. That's what LCL was. I think this is possible and Anno was aware that it was, hence why he put it in his movie. While it will take time, this reality is reachable. We just have to be patient.

This, and essentially the first part of the whole thing for most people will be an extended (a few weeks or something) acid trip going through all their insecurities etc and sorting things out. The congratations scene is where you are put once done, everyone arrives about the same time

Now i know how much reductionist my post is - but try to keep an open mind about it
I was never learned about patience at school for example
Id argue that to teach a stupid man patience is overall more beneficial for humanity than trying to teach him math or history

Destroying all individuality and ushering in the reign of Americanization of the world. That was the theme of anime during mid 90s. The ending was about how to live in such a world where there was no escape from Americanization of culture. This anime(along with many others of the time, not just japanese anime but also from european media) is basically angst against this homogenization of culture.
