Scientifically speaking, what is the motivation for the philosophy of logical positivism?

I ask because a positivist philosophy seems to be quite common/popular among scientists of various fields, despite the fact that it's clearly a low IQ and unimaginative philosophy that refutes itself (and therefore is to be thrown in the trash instantly) and it was utterly dismantled by various scientists and philosophers last century. Yet many scientists still have a de facto positivist philosophy about them.

Why is that?
