Are his calculations correct? Where did he make a mistake? I assume he didn't account for refraction or didn't properly calculate the horizon distance.

He's forgetting about refraction. Light over a cold body of water tends to bend in such a way as to extend the horizon. This happened with the Eddystone lighthouse.

I assumed that's what it was. What I find silly is that in the video he says: "Are you really going to say that the water was lifted using refraction?" (not really an exact quote).
Also I know the Law of Perspective is untrue (where things appear to disappear bottom up due to perspective), but I never could explain exactly why it is untrue other than "That's just not how perspective works". Is there a more exact explanation for this?

Makes sense. Someone else in the thread said that the sunlight on the bottom of clouds during sunsets was caused by sunlight bouncing off of water droplets in the air, which sounds pretty retarded but I don't know enough about light physics to have a complete argument against it. I would guess that level of light reflection is just not possible with water droplets in the air.

The greeks proved the earth was round, and even had a pretty close approximation to its size by measuring shadows and using geometry.
The romans were greekaboos, and then in christian europe the major schools of thought were bending over backwards to reconcile classical horse shit into a christian context.
