There is a difference between hunter gatherer societies and agriculturalists. The hunter, he goes and gets food whenever it pleases him. He also has no use for numbers, heck there are tribes with absolutely no vocabulary for numbers at all. The farmer has to plant at least a season before he can harvest. He acts for the long term. He might do something today but he is expecting the payoff next winter. So don't think 'oh nothing happened.', just because a reaction was not obvious.
