Because "degradation" is purely subjective and not a biological or actual thing. They do it because it's a good way to make money.

Prostitution is a normal profession for women to have. Look at 3rd world countries where prostitution is a normal/common profession. It was also common for men to marry prostitutes historically. Attention whoring on the internet, porn, etc are just extensions of prostitution.
