Brainlet here, is there a way that we could create a file type that acts as Haplotypes do in genes but for memes?

How do we trace the evolution of an idea or meme over time in a rigourous way? It seems like an area that isn't really looked at or am I missing something?

I talk about this coming from systems biology but can't find jack shit on it.
