studying for a single test specifically for a short time is fine if you use the rest of the time to hone your skills. You chose a path of learning, so that is what you should do.

that's wise.
but I chose this path primarily to meet people at the university, be more social. etc... since at the university you can generally meet 'high quality' people, I chose to do it there. to bad the corona virus doesn't let me do that.

If that helps to get good grades, good for you. Anyway, a lot of knowledge which you will use in your future job will be learned onsite, not in university. University kinda gives you decent foundations, but still, a lot of learning will be done "in the trenches". And application of accumulated knowledge is what will increase your professionalism. Tests in university lab, and tasks in corporation is completely different things. So don't worry much that you are using this approach. It satisfies current goals, and that is what matters at moment.
