So about two weeks ago, I made a post about wanting to sleep better, and one anon just said basically "just do it (9pm–6am), report back in two weeks"
Well, I'm now reporting back, here's my log:
13/06/20
I was recommended to force myself into my desired sleep schedule (9pm–6am) for 2 weeks and see how that works. I liked the simplicity of the idea, so I decided to make an experiment of it. ("Report back in 2 weeks" is a good way to get me to want to do things I think.)
14/06/20
Now that it was a new day, I could begin the experiment. I will record the details of my sleep each night under the header of the next morning.
15/06/20
It took about an hour for the sun to set enough for it to seem sort of dark. I'm Canadian so the days are really long near the summer solstice. When I had to urinate the first of two times (during both of which I did not turn on any lights), I unplugged my power bar since I was already out of bed (I might be misremembering this specific detail now that I think about it), because the blue light its power indicator was making was bothering me. This also had the unexpected, but welcome effect of shutting off my fan. I decided to try falling asleep under just a sheet rather than a thick blanket so that I wouldn't overheat, so that I wouldn't have the light of the fan or the sound of the fan. The amount of light produced by the fan is small but significant and the sound usually helps me sleep but sometimes I fixate in it too much. I only checked the time once and it was something like 11:47pm; going by this, I estimate that I fell asleep at around 1am, getting 5 hours of sleep in my 9 hours in bed. I woke up tired enough that if things don't get better from here on out, I won't be able to stick with this sleep schedule beyond the experiment, I guess I'd just be cursed to have a late schedule in a "fast" (=early) world.
