To be honest you actually have quite a few subjects. Antenna and reflector (FSS, metamaterials) design. Microwave design (for signal integrity applications for example), MEMS too.
To be honest, and as expected, it really is applied physics with less steps. We might be a bit more hands on, too.

If you can bring something to the table, if you can publish novel designs with a solid theoretical analysis of what the hell you've been making, there's no reason why your PhD should be worth less.
