I watched this video, is toothpaste actually nessecary? are we getting fucked by another company?

I know i could do some research, but its a lot of work and i figured more people would be interested, also maybe some of you already know something about it.

most sources that ive seen seem to agree on the fact that fluoride is neccesary but the rest of the ingredients are not.

also i saw an article that said that topical fluoride treatments dont help after adolescence, why then is fluoride in toothpaste still reccomended?

its disappointing how little consensus science often has. between differing definitions, interpretation of data, and yes ulterior motives and manipulation of results, you can find an article supporting pretty much any point of view. oh and throw in a layer of schizo internet noise on top of that too

All I know is this:

- It helps neutralizing acids, but only if there's a problem with your saliva which does this naturally, or if you ate acidic things like fruit but you shouldn't brush your teeth directly after enjoying fruit anyway
- it contains fluoride usually, which builds up a thin layer of flour apatite, but this layer will be gone after around two seconds of chewing, which was found by an (I think) Italian physicist. It does help keeping bacteria away in the meantime though
- swallowing fluoride is bad, especially for your bones
- a friend's grandmother brushes her teeth with miswak (or whatever is called) twigs and has the nicest teeth, no cavities ever

- there is a toothpaste that contains a material that repairs your enamel to a certain extent, it's one of the sensodyne series. The company (GSK I think) has a patent on it.
