There is no explicit reason why it should be impossible for a lifeform to be based on something different than carbon.
However carbon is a pretty likely element for life to develop from as it's plentifull, allows for complex molecules and decently fast chemical reactions.

Surely these chemical bonds are affected by gravity and chemistry of their native planets

The real question is not if it can bond the exact same way as carbon does, but if it can bond into polymers, like our DNA or just about any kind of plastic.
Macromolecules like DNA/RNA can be seen to be a basis for life to develop.
And there are ways to make silicone form macromolecules.

Yes it's a theoretical possibility but completely unlikely. Carbon is FAR better for the job than anything else, including silicon, and it's also one of the most common elements in the universe.
