That reality is horrible, yet he constantly tries to uncover it. I think humans are the same, as we advance into better understanding reality, we will get to the conclusion that the most fundamental nature of reality is horrid, which is why our brains adapted to abstract and approximate everything, otherwise we would all kill ourselves instantly.
