Hey /sci/, so today I got into an argument with my friend, who believed that prisons should focus on rehabilitation over retribution. One reason he listed was because many violent offenders are mentally ill like pedophiles & psychopaths, so it's ableist and immoral to kill somebody who doesn't have much control of his mind the same way it's immoral to kill a murderous dog despite being no threat to anybody.
I asked him 'What about the Nazis', to which he responded 'Nazis aren't mentally ill'; which begs the question of this thread: Are hateful supremacists mentally ill like psychopaths and pedophiles or are they different from those two groups?
