roughly 10% suffer from COVID for a month. Data for patients who suffer longer than 39 days is not considered, so the actual figure is much higher, hence the 20% guess.

Anecdotal: on the leddit r/covid19positive sub, the posts are full of people experiencing new symptoms 3-4 months in--this means that the virus is still active and replicating, and cannot be cleared from the body.

Most likely, the virus is hiding in certain long-lived cells (neurons?) and the body is physically incapable of curing the disease.

This epidemic is basically HIV but will affect 60x more people and cause lifelong debilitation (and possibly very early death)
