ur rite its not a major. at universities its more of a phd research field, its pretty interdisciplinary. ee, matsci, chemE, physics people all involved in different aspects.

on ee side, schools will have maybe 1 semiconductor device physics course for undergrads. most of the course shit is grad level because u need understanding of quantum + electrostatics and eventually solid state to actually understand device physics

Because a true "semiconductor major" doesn't actually exist? It's a combination of a specific subset of EE (VLSI), solid state physics, and materials engineering which isn't taught unless you put significant effort into picking the right classes.
