One was a retired NSA analyst who wrote a book that made him enough money to retire and he taught history for fun. Really smart dude with some great stories about his time with the government (like lying about aliens to get laid in a bar.)
My botany teacher was this little old crusty 90 year old who had a lifetime of knowledge about every plant in a thousand miles. Him and another teacher ran the tall grass prairie reclamation project which was really interesting.
My astronomy teacher was a young kid who was supposed to be working on that neutrino detector in the south dakota gold mine that was abandoned.
I probably learned more from those guys than anyone else in my academic career.
