You essentially replace more upper-division gradschool-oriented classes with engineering ones. For example, for us it was the second semester of quantum and 6 hours of senior-level physics electives. You totally don't need those in "real life" aka industry. So BS in physics can be a very good thing if you don't plan to go to grad school.
