>>11837960 said. So if {3, 2, 1, 4} was an array, wherever the array is located in memory would be the representation of 3, then 2, then 1, then 4. Similar happens for a 2d array. If you had {{5, 1, 7}, {2, 3, 9}} first would be {5, 1, 7} in memory, then {2, 3, 9} and so it'd be laid out the same as {5, 1, 7, 2, 3, 9}.
