Greetings from Magyarország. I have a question about computer programming. I keep hearing about various so-called "high level" programming languages such as FORTRAN but I don’t see why anybody would need anything other than machine code ?

C is as high level as you need- the language should be a description of the machine implementation; nothing else. The abstract conceptual parts should be handled by your brain.

We don't need, but we want the confort of not having to care about memory, of thinking in classes and objects or thinking in functions, not in spaghetti, of letting low-level network stuff beeing handled etc.
