The scientific portion of CS comes from the ability for computational models and tools to aid in understanding nature, whether in an applied manner (computer predictions with approximation methods) or theoretically (complexity theoretic results that have physics implications, like MIP* = RE providing an answer to Tsirelson's problem.
This does not mean CS is a science, but like mathematics, often has the uncanny ability to allow us to talk about science formally and exactly.
