Why do regular people, and even PHD carrying physicist believe that black holes are "portals" to other universes when it's obvious it's just tightly packed matter and energy that will dissipate.

Even the eternal Schwarzschild black hole contains a copy of another universe on the other side of the black hole. This is the most basic version of a black hole you can have.

You can't actually get to the other universe though, you'll hit the singularity before you can reach it. You could meet someone from the other universe inside the black hole though (before you're both killed by the singularity).

nobody believed black holes existed when they were first predicted because specifically they would allow for all kinds of funky stuff mathematically. Now that we have very good evidence that they exist, understanding to what extent that stuff is funky would help us understand a great deal about the rest of the universe too.

But this line of thinking is so theoretical it may as well be fantasy. Just because there is tremendous force being put on matter doesn't make it some other world. It's just super dense, extremely dense; so dense that the rules may change but if there WAS another world on the other side of it the damn thing would fill that "volume". But we know that that isn't the fucking case. And I'm a brainlet please bare with me, it just seems more physically logical that black holes are just super dense rocks.

The density of all black holes is always constant. It's infinite. If you could split the hole in 2, both would be as infinite as the one.

we can calculate the density of a black hole, it's a simple geometric problem where you take the volume and mass like in any other density calculation

the largest black holes are in fact less dense than water, because their volume grows faster than their mass

it's unknown and possibly literally unknowable which makes physicists a bit philosophical about it, maybe from its own point of view it exists but from ours it doesn't, maybe it technically only exists in the event horizon itself and there actually isn't anything in deeper, etc.

These videos is what made me ask this question. What kept me up was asking myself, when that black hole evaporates; isn't that information just being spread out as radiation or whatever? Nothing was really lost, just because something is in a quagmire doesn't mean it's in another universe.

the problem of extreme time dilation comes in when you think about it that way, if time gets dilated farther and farther as you approach the black hole, then can you actually fall through it within the same span of dilated time that the hole itself exists? it's possible that everything that falls into a black hole could be seen as still in freefall towards the center, but never actually making it there

Personally, I think that is a failing of our squishy animal perceptions of time and existence. This would imply there was some equal force pushing against that matter before hitting the rest of the matter at the core. I think in the real universe, that matter just hits the surface of all of that matter and is just immediately rained on and layered by other matter. It's just a big grey greedy rock.
