Mindfulness is just training your mind to realize what you are doing without giving in to auto pilot mode.
However, this goes hand in hand with your physical health. If you don't exercise a lot, sleep with a shitty schedule, and your body feels like crap, you will auto pilot more frequently, and it's harder for you to practice mindfulness.
