Is there an evolutionary purpose to furries?

Before woven clothing was invented, wearing furs was the only option for warm clothing. In this era, being a furry could be an evolutionary advantage if it made humans more likely to wear furs. Perhaps furries were the first to invent clothing by putting on furs to larp as animals then realizing it was actually pretty warm and comfy and convincing other people to try it. Thoughts on this? Is it actually encoded in their DNA? Is the desire to be a furry innate or learned?
