>>11827846>That mental illnes is posted here every so often, despite the obvious impossibility. Even some well known people, surely nick bostrom, Ithink Elon Musk and so on.No, I think a high percentage of mega conspiracy theorists on 4chan actually are suffering from some psychotic condition like schizophrenia. They probably feel like they're being tracked and watched if they don't post on anonymous websites, and there are plenty of people here who confirm all their paranoias and share their beliefs and such.
Bostrom and Musk don't think we're in a simulation, they just think there's some probability we're in one. And even if they were certain we were in one, they still wouldn't think killing people is reasonable. Just because we're in a simulation doesn't necessarily mean everything isn't as real as we perceive.
We could just be a sandbox with some initial conditions set up by some (equivalent of) kids having fun, and they just let the thing run and fast forward through it to see conflicts like the Roman civil wars and WWII or whatever. But we would still all be just as conscious and sapient as we think we are, and murder would still be just as immoral and heinous. This is generally the stance of those who believe we may be in a simulation. And even if it wasn't, no one can be certain we're in one, so doing crazy things like killing people despite the significant chance we're not in one is still insane.
>>11828858This is a huge part of it, but there are some people with high self-esteem and self-worth who still believe in conspiracy theories. (Trump is arguably one. You could argue about hidden internal insecurities or whatever, but he definitely appears to highly regard himself.)
