I have many friends that parrot pop sci shit they know nothing about, often wrong
But human envy and desire to save one's grace come into play here because any time I call them out on their bullshit, let's say that 60 percent of those types of people will be like - I'll bet you 100 bucks i was right and then we would rush to fact check on our phones
A silly anegdote i know, but I had so many attempts to talk sense into my more dumb friends that for example think vacinnrs are evil
When I try to argue with them in 90 percent of cases they will, i shit you not, and I did this sooo many times on Facebook because I love changing people's minds - they will use some bullshit non arguments like - it's my choice to believe as is yours or, I won't read the research you sent me because that's just your opinion
I still think it's easier to straighten up those pop svi posers that probably know a lot of bad info about everything, than people who are seriously lacking in education.
Someone who believes the earth is flat - probably had a hard time in school and has literally zero clue about scientific process - and is also lazy and too much based in his wrong think so education would literally cause them psychological stress - because they know so little about the world. These people need kid gloves on and info to be spoonfed to them along with constant dopamine injections because otherwise they won't even bother
I live in serbia where it's normal for stupid people to flock to stupid shit - where stupid literally breeds stupid - with rising popularity in serbia for public science deniers and Bible thumper it has also become obvious that those same public figures might be just a tad more intelligent and even aware they are wrong - they are literally doing it to profit of stupid people and feed their ignorance with even more stupid so they can farm yokel bucks
