Yes, which is why Europeans and Asians (and I think Oceanics too iirc) have trace neanderthal dna
One sex of one species couldn't birth viable children, something to do with the birth canal being too narrow iirc and the xy chromosomes being incompatible with their xx, though I can't remember which pairing it was.

Incidentally, black women struggle to give birth to white babies because our heads are too big.
