Science cannot be proved like a mathematical equation, it can merely theorize and approach some representation of truth, but it can never prove it, because that would contradict the scientific method. When it comes to simulations, well, we living in a simulation is an unfalsifiable hypothesis. There is no way we can distinguish between base reality and a simulation, because simulations are made to simulate reality, if we could suddenly distinguish between them, then the entire point of simulations is gone. The whole simulation thing is more a topic of philosophy than it is science. Science revolves around the obervable, since we cannot observe that we're in a simulation, we don't have any way to conduct experiments to verify whether we are. Instead, being in a simulation is something we can only speculate about, it is purely hypothetical, and thus falls within the realm of philosophy.
