Another way to think about it is that there's a 1/10 chance that the last digit is the same as the second to last.
>>11813815For the chance of dubs, trips, etc. to be 1/10, 1/100, etc. and actually be random, a few assumptions have to be made.
The rate of increase of post numbers has to be independent of what the current post number is at any point in time.
This isn't technically true because some people will try to snipe gets by using scripts, which will make it less likely for any other users to get them, but it still barely has an effect on the real odds
You also must not know any of the digits of the last post on the board.
This is because if the post numbers are currently like No.77777xxx, for example, the chance of getting 'octs' isn't 1/10^7, since the first five digits don't really change (this is also assuming that no one else is trying to snipe these gets, which obviously wouldn't be true)
Finally, the last assumption must be that there must be enough digits for your gets. It isn't possible for anyone to get 9 digits in a row on this board, for example, if the last post number is less than 99999999.
Someone let me know if I made any mistakes, I'm not a statistician/mathematician and don't know anything about formal proofs.
