idk what textbook you were using but if it was something like Hoffman & Kunze maybe it's too hard for a beginner. Try Linear Algebra and its applications by David Lay, that's an easy one. Then jump to something more difficult. Like with any subject that you want to really learn, just fill in every void before moving on to the next issue
