Assuming said Alien civ was no technologically superior than us, that alien civ would offer nothing of benefit to us. Nothing but open up just a new branch of biology to study at the cost of a fuck ton worth of revisions in our constitutional guidelines, moral ethics, and societal rules.

Even if the differences did not escalate to a race war, the amount of discrimination and cultural strife would leave decades worth of conundrums in our history.
