Is this the right spot for this question?

I once read in an old history book that fully human remains had been found in southern Africa that were larger than modern humans, with larger craniums, and over 3 million years old. What race they were was undetermined and the remains were lost somehow. I see anecdotal evidence of early humans being larger, more evolved than popular theories suggest, and having far more advanced technologies than other species of humanity from the same time periods. Does anyone know where I can find information about such things? I'm a huge fan of human evolutionary history and would like to learn more.

I have a hard time believing we humans have only had advanced civilization and tech for the last couple thousand years, when we have been on this earth as modern humans for at least 200,000, if not more.
