Volume of applications.
And The people reading your application don't know anything that you do.
So you must bare that inmind when creating your resume or presenting projects you have worked on.
They are going to care more about how it looks rather then how it functions. No one cares you know TeX unless it's an academic position.
No one cares you can solve this really complex problem unless they already are above or at your knowledge level.
HR are likely not.

These are mistakes I made when applying. Still haven't adjusted my portfolio to reflect this as it's a big job.
It fucking sucks.

First year CSE student here, managed to nab a internship at a prominent global company. I don't really hate it, but goddamn do I hate the thought of being a code monkey for the rest of my life. The problem is I haven't even gotten an interview. I've been applying online through sites like glassdoor. The only people I've gotten back from are staffing companies (who expect me to pay 10k for a year of training first).
