You're sort of right. One of the founders of the anti-vaccine movement is a disgraced doctor named Andrew Wakefield. He had a patent for a Measles vaccine that wasn't making any money because there was already a three-in-one shot for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR). He published a fraudulent study linking the MMR vaccine to autism thinking this would make his shit sell. This fraud was discovered and retracted, but it had already snowballed into people thinking all vaccines cause autism.

I wonder if you could really make profit this way. The cost of spreading anti-vax propaganda is probably not all that much. You could probably just feed a couple of youtube schizos and facebook karens then they'll do most of the work for your. Or use a troll farm.

No need, people are stupid enough as is.

Also, class action lawsuits can destroy a company. If the science later proves the company's product or whatever wasn't to blame, the company can't unbankrupt themselves or recover the money.

Some politicians and celebs ride the wave, but even they really don't benefit much. Like I said, people are just dumb.
