>>11803261Not really. Algebra is more about structure, which is indeed very cool, but combinatorics is a combination of structure and pure problem solving. I mean, you don’t really have to choose because algebraic combinatorics exists, but there’s no inherent reason why algebra is cooler than combinatorics, given that they’re both full of very powerful results.
Side note: Every student / professor in combinatorics I’ve met has been at least proficient, or more commonly excellent, in algebra and analysis, but many in algebra and especially analysis have been pretty bad with combinatorics.
