From what I understand cooling is an issue that exists with typical guns which are combustion based but can accelerators solve this?

You really can't get away from producing waste heat.
If you were a space dreadnaught you might consider using water as the weapon's heat sink and then venting it into space when it gets too hot, but this means you've got to carry that around with you.
If you're talking about space opera space battles then thats on the same list as hover tanks and mecha in the "cool shit that is 0% practical."

If you can remove the heat from combustion and the heat from friction barrel, it should dramatically reduce heat production no?

I'm thinking about an accelerator where the projectile is completely magnetically controlled.
