From a psychological standpoint, is there any truth to the whole "people in their late teens can't consent" thing or is it just a meme? I'm in my early 20s and my mentality was virtually unchanged between ages 16-18, yet if an adult has sex with a 17yo in some states they go to jail but if they wait a few months it magically becomes ok. Like I find huge age gaps creepy just like everyone else, but it just doesn't make sense to me how society seems to think that such a minuscule amount of time makes all the difference.
