Someone on here mentioned a few weeks ago that our brains are wired such that learning new subjects is literally associated with pain. Can anyone elaborate on this?
Observing myself I find it oddly descriptive, as when working on a subject like math I prefer to do things I "already know", and trying to learn a new unfamiliar subject in math I notice immediate internal resistance, eyes glazing over, and a sense of general irritation. I soon want to do almost anything else and have to fight against this feeling to continue. I can crack open any Calculus book and enjoy it because I already "intuitively" understand Calculus, but something based on Linear Algebra quickly produces this feeling.
