Terence Tao is not a genius. He's a second-rate mathematician whose only claim to fame is getting his degrees earlier than others because his gook parents forced him to. He also has never taken an IQ test.

He has proven no big theorem. Made no huge contribution to mathematics. Pretty much all he has done is generalize some theorems other mathematicians proved (that is his biggest achievement, the Green-Tao theorem, and he didn't prove it himself, he needed a co-author). He learned calculus at a young age, because his parents knew some mathematics and taught it to him, and got a PhD when he was very young. For as much as you all mock Jacob Barnett for being considered a genius for doing calculus at 12, you worship Tao for doing the EXACT same thing. But precociousness does not compare to actual genius. Doing something slightly earlier than others means almost nothing, especially when you had studyasian parents force you to do it.

Tao has done nothing in comparison. And yet brainlets consider him the "greatest living mathematician"? What a joke. The truth is you only think that because he did calculus at 12 just like Jacob Barnett. Because that's Tao's greatest achievement. He will always be a second-rate, celebrity mathematician worshiped by popsci brainlets like the OP.

He got awarded it for "contributions to math" not for proving any huge result. Tao is worshiped by the math establishment because he has huge appeal to normies due to numberphile and other shit, which means more notoriety, funding, and money in their pocket. Normies love him because he was a child prodigy and they think that makes you a genius. In reality he is not even in the top 25 currently living mathematicians today let alone absolute TITANS of math like Milnor, Szemeredi, Lovasz, etc.

It's basically an intellectual playpen for nerds to use their big branes to mess with random abstract problems. And as it seems, all problem solving are connected in some way, so solving any problem automatically helps you solve new(and actually important) problems. And the more abstract the problem, the more general its solution's usefulness.
