Have you ever pondered about the time invested per bit of knowledge acquired in your favorite field/topic? And if there are other subjects that, while may be not as interesting, the greater volume of info per acquired hour spent would make it worth.

Also - do you have the feeling that of that 'time spent to "half" understand something is wasted time' ? If you don't have all the relevant pieces together you won't get the big picture. and if you don't get it in in your attempt, you will probably have to start all over again the next time. You should either study it properly or not study at all (or just be happy to limit your knowledge to content created for layman)
