Perception vs reality

Is anyone else consistantly perceived as smart? I do not believe I am an intellgient person. I have diffculty understanding simple things. I have difficulty following simple instructions. I did not, and have never done well in school. I am socially retarded and easily manipulated. Nonetheless, I am constantly assessed as "smart". Why is this? Does this happen to anyone else? What would cause you to see someone as smart?

Here are the possibilitys I've considered.

1. Dunning–Kruger effect - Unironically sounds like a cope.

2. Imposter syndrome - See (1.)

3. People are mistaking my strangeness (I am a strange person. I am not a sperg, but I've always been and felt different from everyone else.) for intelligence.

4. When I speak, my diction is unique. My vocabulary is a larger than average, but I have difficulty speaking. The end result is, I use bigger words than neccessary. It takes a lot of effort to turn a thought into words. Imagine having a thought, then needing to go through a rolodex of words, for each word in the sentence. There is a deliberate, linear construction to everything I say. I cannot just "talk". This could possibly come off as "smart" I think.

5. People were manipulating me and laughing behind my back. (IE it was all a big joke.) - I've have 1 friend who told me he thought I was intellgient, regardless of my school performance. He was a good person. If it were not for him, I would think this is plausible. Because of him, I do not.

6. I am unironically autistic/aspergers - My mom bought me tendies when I was younger and I enjoyed them. Plausible.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Why do you think this is?
