>>11787530He's right, but for the wrong reasons. Depression has never been proven to be associated with low serotonin, that's just a (disproven)hypothesis, the monoamine hypothesis, that's used by pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs to people.
Remember, prozac was one of the first drugs to be approved for direct to consumer advertising. It stands to reason, you can't quote papers and statistics in a television commercial, so you need something snappy and science-y sounding to sell normies on shit they know nothing about.
My pet theory is that depression has to do with chronically low oxytocin levels. I saw a few papers that were released over the past 5 or so years that found that oxytocin was a positive allosteric modulator at the mu-opioid receptor and that it could by used to reduce pain even when the normal oxytocin receptors were blocked in rats (I think). I really don't have any other evidence for this other than my experience dealing with different types of people and what types of drugs they gravitate to, but here's my reasoning.
We know that people gravitate towards the drugs that most fix their mental issues, hence why people with adhd are much more likely to become not just drug addicts, but meth addicts (and it's not because they got addicted to adderall first, adderall actually reduces the risk of drug addiction in people with adhd -- contrary to popular belief).
Now, we know oxytocin is released in romantic situations (not just sex, but cuddling moreso) and deep friendships.
What is modern society marked by a distinct lack of? Relationships and friendships.
And what type of drugs are people gravitating towards lately? opiates. (The opiate crisis is overblown and only being used to shill power for the DEA, but the choice of drug use for users has been gravitating towards opiates over others).
all in all though,
fuck doctors
fuck psychiatrists
fuck pharmaceutical companies
and most of all...
fuck jannies
